THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS

One of the greatest abilities given to human beings, and one of the most important on the spiritual path, is the ability to forgive. Forgiveness is not condoning someone else's hurtful behaviour, or saying that no mistakes were made. Forgiveness does not mean that the perpetrator should not be punished.
Forgiveness means that we, as humanbeings on the path of spirituality, must release the pain, anger and grudges which act like a vice on our heart, suffocating us in their grip, and wrenching out our vital energy and life force. Forgiveness remoes the vice from our hearts and allows us to breathe, live and love freely.
When someone hurts us- knowingly or unknowingly, purposely or accidentally- we have three ways of dealing with that hurt.

ABBEY

MELROSEABBEY
  • ABBEY
The layout of buildings within an abbey complex often follows a common pattern.Essential to the pattern is the abbey church, with a cloistered quadrant adjacent to it. Surrounding the quadrant on the remaining three sides are buildings housing a refectory and kitchens, a dormitory, and a chapter house. Other buildings within the complex might include an abbot's house and a hostel for visiting pilgrims.

  • ABOUT MELROSEABBEY

There has been a monastery at Melrose, or Mailros, since about 650AD. The first monastery was founded here by St Aidan of Lindisfarne and monks came from St Columba's monastery on Iona. This monastery was located in a loop in the River Tweed two miles to the east of today's Melrose, now known as Old Melrose.
